Well, He Is Technically a Villain, Though

He died and opened his eyes as a minor villain inside a novel.  

Worse—he’s the extra whose job is to blacken the future main villain.

The problem is that the person he’s supposed to torment is a kid who already looks half-dead.

He was going to give up out of guilt, but then—

[Main Quest: Blacken Chase %^@#!]  

[Failure = Death]

What? Death if I fail?  

He was born a ducal heir—he’s not dying like this!

So he exploits a loophole in the system, only pretends to bully him, and treats the pitiful future black-curtain well instead.  

After all the twists he clears the mission, and the system tells him to make a wish.

“Let me live until I die without ever working, never worrying about money, living large and flashy!”

He closed his eyes and opened them again—

“Welcome, Noel. I’ve become the richest, most perfect bride you wanted.”

Three years have passed, and a fully grown Chase greets him with a bright smile.

…Huh?  

Looks like the wish got fulfilled in a seriously wrong way.

Sure enough, Chase was huddled at the edge of the bed. The room had already been shut into darkness.

He really loves the dark an insane amount.

Even while thinking something else entirely, Noel deliberately twisted his face into a vicious scowl and barked in a fierce voice.

“W-who is it? Is that you, Noel?”  

“I knew you’d be sitting here looking pathetic. I washed you and fed you—shouldn’t you be doing something? You’re so stupid and frustrating I can’t stand it! Rolling around with that worn-out doll and wasting time!”  

“…Noel.”

Noel roared and hurled the lion plushie in his hand.  

Or rather—he didn’t throw it so much as walk right up to the bed and gently set the doll down.

Ding—!

[Threat completed by throwing an object!]  

[Congratulations! Sub-mission: Three Steps to Awaken the Main Villain — Cleared!]

The instant the success message floated in mid-air, Noel spun around without a shred of lingering attachment, as if his business was finished. Behind him Chase seemed to say something with startled eyes, but Noel couldn’t have cared less. He fled the room.

“Yes!”

His guess had been right. A look of pure delight spread across Noel’s face as he raced down the corridor.
