NLFSD Chapter 47
by berryChapter 47
âIâm going to wash up.â
âAh, yesâŠ! Take your time.â
Seo Taecheon headed to the nearest bathroom. His steps seemed just slightly awkward in a way that made Jiwoon suspect why â but he forced himself to stare into empty space instead. If it was indeed for the reason he was thinking of, he would rather dunk his face in a basin of cold water than admit it.
âHa⊠barely escaped.â
Soon, faint water sounds could be heard past the bathroom door, and Jiwoon felt all the tension drain out of him.
âThat was close just now.â
It had been that kind of dangerous, suggestive atmosphere â like he had barely escaped stepping into the adult world.
Jiwoonâs gaze shifted toward the package box that had, quite literally, saved him.
âThis thing ruined the mood⊠Or maybe itâs lucky it did.â
To calm his muddled thoughts, he decided to open it.
I havenât ordered anything lately⊠so is this TaecheonâCâs?
Come to think of it, Taecheon didnât seem like the type to shop online. Usually, if he needed something, heâd have his secretary buy it or go to a department store with a personal shopper. Groceries and household items were all taken care of by the housekeeper. He really had no reason to place a delivery order himself.
Then what the heck are you?
Jiwoon picked up the package and looked at the shipping label.
âOh? The sender is⊠the Ministry of Health and Family?â
Looking closer, it was from the Promotional Team for the Divorce Reflection Program under the Ministry of Health and Family. The listed recipients were Seo Taecheon â Lee Jiwoon.
So itâs for us. But why would they send something hereâŠ?
âNo way.â
A vivid â and very inappropriate â image flashed across Jiwoonâs mind.
This is for maintaining a healthy marital relationship â so of course it must be something naughty!
Still addled from earlier skinship, Jiwoon viewed the package through his own bright red lewd-tinted glasses.
Adult goods. Definitely. The other day they were promoting âsafe heatârut cycle management,â werenât they? Reflection couples are expected to spend a lot of nights together, so they mustâve sent something for that.
His face turned crimson even though no one was watching.
Letâs open it before TaecheonâC gets out of the shower.
Hurrying to the living room drawers, Jiwoon fetched a box cutter and began slicing it open. If it was something embarrassing, heâd either destroy it or stash it away before Taecheon saw â either way, he needed to inspect it first.
âWhat theââ
But when he opened the box, Jiwoon let out a short laugh.
It was nothing like the shameful item heâd imagined â in fact, the contents were ridiculously wholesome and entirely useless.
âItâs all SookâryeoâDoongâi merch.âÂč
Frowning, Jiwoon began pulling the items out. The top layer held two SookâryeoâDoongâi plush dolls â one blue, one yellow. The bottoms had holes for inserting your hands.
âThey want us to play dolls? What a waste of taxpayer money.â
The rest was equally headache-inducing: SookâryeoâDoongâiâheaded pens, SookâryeoâDoongâi sticky notes, a SookâryeoâDoongâi engraved toothbrush set â trinkets of every kind. At the bottom lay colorful printed postcards reading:
We present this SookâryeoâDoongâi merchandise set to couples beginning their Reflection period.
With SookâryeoâDoongâi full of love, build harmony in your marriage!
Why not âReflectâ the Sookâryeoâwayâ„
âHa⊠how anticlimactic.â
All that pomp, slapping the Ministryâs name on⊠and itâs just this.
Jiwoon glanced toward the bathroom. Taecheon was taking longer than usual â probably enjoying his own private time. Jiwoon didnât want to intrude, so he decided to wait quietly on the living room sofa until he was done.
Guess Iâll play with the SookâryeoâDoongâi plushies in the meantime. The stuffingâs really plump â feels nice.
With nothing else to do, Jiwoon slipped one plush over each hand.
Alone, doing a oneâman puppet show felt awkward, but acting out scenes as if he were in a drama was one of Jiwoonâs quirks and hobbies. Old habits die hard â he dove right into overâimmersion.
Iâm the yellow SookâryeoâDoongâi â no, really Iâm Lee Jiwoon, Seo Taecheonâs lover, just in plush form. Then the blue SookâryeoâDoongâi? Thatâs Taecheon himself.
âDarling, I love you.â
Imitating the messenger sticker heâd sent the other day, Jiwoon halfâlidded his eyes and bobbed the yellow plush cutely.
Ooh, this is kind of fun. Alright, now for blueâs turn.
âI love you too, darling.â
He lowered his voice to mimic Taecheonâs deep tone. A shiver ran through him and goosebumps covered his arms.
âAh!â
Oh no, this is way more fun than I thought!
Kicking his feet and rolling across the sofa, Jiwoon got even more carried away and moved on to improv scenarios.
âDarling, what should we name our second child?â
Yellow plush leaned sweetly against blue plush as Jiwoon asked.
âHmm⊠I donât know. What does my beloved Jiwoon want?â
âIâll go with whatever you say.â
âThen first, weâd better make a child. Why name one when we donât have one yet?â
âOh, right! Then⊠how about tonight?â
Giggling, Jiwoon was completely lost in the puppet play and didnât notice the shower sounds stop â or the sound of slippered feet approaching behind him.
âWhat are you doing?â
âAAAH!â
A shadow fell over him from behind. Turning, Jiwoon saw Taecheon in a gray robe and nearly jumped out of his skin. His flailing hands sent the yellow and blue puppets flying.
âDâdid you⊠see everything?â
âMm. Not from the start â just from the part where you proposed naming the baby after⊠relations.â
âAAAH!!â
Kill me now.
Jiwoon wanted to crawl into a hole. Covering his burning face with both hands did nothing to cool it.
âIâIâm sorryâŠâ
âNo need to apologize. I just didnât expect you to already be thinking of names for our child.â
âThatâs notâ noâ it was justâ!â
âFor naming, weâll have to ask one of the wellâknown masters. And as you said⊠no point in naming one when thereâs no baby yet.â
âWhat?!â
Jiwoon waved his arms in an âXâ to block himself.
âWâwhoa, no way!â
Losing his balance, he tilted backward â until Taecheon caught him by the waist.
âDonât worry, Iâm not making one tonight.â
âOh⊠uh⊠sâsorryâ I mean, thanksâno, IâŠâ
Unable to handle the mortification, Jiwoon turned his head away. Taecheon kissed his forehead lightly.
âThereâs nothing to be sorry or thankful for. Itâs just a matter of when.â
With that, Taecheon smiled at his beetâred lover.
âGo wash up. Iâll put the puppets away.â
âYâyes!â
Jiwoon practically fled to the bathroom. Despite the cold weather, he felt overheated enough to need a freezing rinse.
Whether from embarrassment or shame, the Jiwoon in the mirror looked like a wreck. After a tough shower, he filled the tub with cold water and sank in.
âWhat is even happening⊠so humiliating.â
And yet in the bath, flashes of todayâs events â the almostâdangerous tension with Taecheon â kept replaying, making him kick his feet under the water.
âPhew⊠But as Taecheon said, itâs something thatâll happen eventually.â
If he kept avoiding it out of fear and inexperience, could they really call themselves a married couple dating each other? Their relationship was both â lovers and spouses â so adult intimacy was⊠essential.
âWhen should it be⊠Hopefully, he gives me like two weeksâ notice so I can prepare mentally.â
Placing one hand over his stillâpounding heart, Jiwoon touched his swollen lips with a fingertip. The whole day felt like a dream.
After soaking in cold water for some time, he got into pajamas â but instead of heading straight to the bedroom, he went to the kitchen. Somehow, the dayâs events had left him feeling drained, and he thought a health tonic would help.
âThe housekeeperâs organized things nicely.â
Opening the fridge, he saw the vegetable drawer packed with pouchâsealed herbal medicine. These had arrived last summer from Taecheonâs mother for her son, but Jiwoon had secretly tried one, gotten hooked, and now drank it every two or three days. Taecheon had shown no interest, and as far as Jiwoon knew, had long since forgotten its existence.
*Havenât had one in a while. This stuff just⊠feels energizing. Fills me with yang energyâŠ*ÂČ
As an Omega, talking about filling up with yang energy might sound absurd â but that was exactly how it felt to Jiwoon. A rush of vital, almost forceful warmth suffusing his whole body.
âAhhh. Thatâs good.â
Downing it in one go and rinsing his mouth, Jiwoon headed toward the bedroom.
Footnotes:
- SookâryeoâDoongâi â A fictional, cutesy mascot character that often appears in official communications or promos within the storyâs world, used here for government âDivorce Reflectionâ program merchandise.
- Yang energy â In East Asian philosophy, the yang principle is associated with heat, vitality, and masculinity. Here, Jiwoon humorously applies it to himself even though, as an Omega in the ABO setting, itâs not technically âhisâ role.
