NLFSD Chapter 69
by berryChapter 69
âIâm a sworn bachelor, rememberâŠ! Dâdoing romance? What nonsense!â
âRight? Thatâs so you. You never date, Jiwoon. Always turn down blind dates.â
Kang Heeâjoo linked arms with him, pulling him along, while the other classmates laughed loudly, joking that Jiwoon was a lifelong bachelor whoâd never marry. Jiwoon forced an empty laugh, soulless.
Transportation to Letâs World had been arranged by the park â shuttle buses for general employees, while executives of Team Leader rank and above would travel by separate vehicles.
âSo itâs just staff together, huh.â
âOf course. Iâd rather take the subway than ride with old suits.â
As chatter swirled, Jiwoon found himself sighing with nostalgia over last summerâs workshop. Then, by whim of fate, heâd been paired to share a seat with Seo Taecheon. At the time, it had seemed awkward, even irritating â but now, looking back, it was golden, almost predestined.
That was sweet time. Back then I was annoyed, but maybe it was fate all along.
Lost in misty memory, he was jolted as Song Team Leader suddenly climbed aboard.
âAssistant Lee, so you were here.â
âUh⊠Team Leader? Werenât executives supposed to travel by private cars with the board?â
âHaha, I could have. But I wanted to ride with you, so I skipped it.â
ââŠWhat?â
âKang Heeâjoo, excuse me. Slide over. Iâll take the seat by Assistant Lee.â
âUh, wait, sirââ
Song moved to dislodge her, heavyâhandedly. Though dumbfounded, Heeâjoo scowled and yielded â after all, he was her superior. Jiwoon braced for torment at being trapped beside him, when suddenly another figure appeared.
âOh! Assistant Lee!â
âManager KiâŠâ
âPerfect! Open seat next to you.â
With a grin, Deputy Manager Ki Hyunjin plopped himself down quickly, disarming Songâs attempt. For an instant, Songâs eyes shot daggers.
âChe.â
Displeased, Song retreated a row back. Jiwoon sighed, massaging his temple, and politely turned to Hyunjin.
âSorry, could you please switch with Heeâjoo again?â
âEh?â
âIâm begging you. Please.â
For all his clumsy forwardness, Hyunjinâs feelings for Jiwoon were genuine. Seeing him plead sincerely, his heart softened, and he surrendered the seat back to Heeâjoo.
Thanks to that, Jiwoon enjoyed a peaceful ride to Letâs World. As they disembarked, he quickly leaned toward Heeâjoo.
âSorry, could you go play with the others first? I need to take care of something.â
âGo? Where to? Weâre supposed to stick together.â
âSorry! Iâll catch up soon!â
The moment the bus stopped, Jiwoon bolted down its steps, ignoring Song and Hyunjin calling after him. He charged straight to the admissions gate emblazoned: âWelcome, Seohwa Hotel Group Employees â Enjoy a Wonderful Night!â
Flashing his staff ID, he received a wristband, the attendant smiling kindly.
âEnjoy your visit.â
âThank you!â
He dashed through the gate as if chased, sprinting to the headband store.
âHeadbands! Please!â
âYes sir, which type are you looking for?â
The partâtimer guided him to the display.
âAngel and devil, you have those?â
âActually, only one of each left.â
âReally? Then both, please â now!â
âOf course.â
She handed him the angel halo and devil horns. In person they were sturdier and cuter than expected.
Yes! Got them. Now just to crown TaecheonâC.
Slipping on the angel halo himself, Jiwoon messaged.
Did you arrive? Iâm already inside.
ă ă C:
Meeting briefly with Letâs World executives. Wonât take long.
Ah, so heâs in a business meeting. Shouldnât disturb thatâŠ
When youâre free, can we meet by the carousel? I have something to give you.
Moments later the reply came, promising heâd come soon.
Jiwoon stuffed the devil horns into his pocket, hopping gleefully. At the carousel, there was barely anyone â all staff clearly rushed toward rollerâcoasters and thrill rides, not slow ones.
After twenty minutes, a lone figure approached â Seo Taecheon. No one else.
âHere! Over here!â
âDid you wait long?â
Striding towards him with a modelâs walk, smile brilliant, Taecheon seemed to come with background music. Jiwoon clasped his mouth as if dazzled.
Hey, Letâs World mascot statue, see that? Thatâs my husband. That man is mine. Weâre married. We just didnât hold the ceremony yetâŠ!
He stomped his feet with pride, boasting at an immobile badger statue.
âWhat is this?â
Standing before him, Taecheon flicked the angel halo on his head with amusement.
âCute, right?â
âDo you need to ask?â
âThey say amusement parks are for this sort of thing.â
Tapping the halo to bounce it, Jiwoon grinned. Laughing aloud, Taecheon shook his head.
âBut why here alone? Not riding with the others. Saw the juniors at Viking earlier.â
âBecause I wanted to do something with you.â
âWith me? Whatâs that?â
âWell⊠could you wear this?â
Jiwoon pulled the devil horns from his pocket. Taecheonâs eyes widened.
âThisâŠâ
âCouple headbands. We canât walk around together, but at least secretly match. I thought itâd be fun. Is it⊠too much?â
Suddenly worried it might embarrass him in front of executives, Jiwoon faltered. Yet Taecheonâs answer stunned him.
âHow are you so adorable?â
ââŠWhat?â
âPut it on me. Yourself.â
ââŠReally?â
âYes. Iâve never worn such a thing. Better if you do it.â
He agreed! He really agreed!
Resisting a cheer, Jiwoon beamed from ear to ear, tiptoeing up. Taecheon lowered himself so their eyes met. Jiwoon carefully placed the horns, brushing hair smooth. To his surprise, Taecheon looked genuinely charming, even cute â words impossible for such a formidable man.
âIt suits you perfectly.â
âDoes it?â
âYes! Look.â
Using his phoneâs screen as a mirror, Jiwoon showed him. Taecheon chuckled.
âShall we take a photo? To remember this.â
âReally?â
âSuch a special look deserves to be kept.â
âI want that too! Letâs.â
Snapping a selfie, both smiled wide.
âLetâs meet later again when we can. We shouldnât stick conspicuously.â
âYouâre right. Iâll rejoin the directors now.â
With both wearing couple headbands, lingering together would be risky. Jiwoon returned to his friends, promising to text often.
Taecheon strode back to the executives. Seeing him from afar, Manager Kim rubbed his eyes.
âDâDirectorâŠ!â
Are those⊠horns?!
Both Letâs World and Seohwa staff gaped. A moment ago he was the epitome of charisma, yet now he stood crowned with devil spikes.
âThese are Letâs World merchandise. Since weâre here, I wished to relax and fully experience the park â to better understand it.â
âSuch profound thought!â
The Letâs World CEO nodded, impressed. Quick to recover, Manager Kim leapt forth.
âIâll wear one too! At once!â
He sprinted straight to the gift shop. Seeing him, other executives sparked with competitive fire. Chance to flatter the boss. I wonât lose eitherâŠ
Soon a mob of suits stormed the souvenir shop â only to find all the cute types sold out by young employees. Left were rejects: pig ears, insect antennae.
