SRSYT C2
by berryChapter 2
Seojin’s eyes darted around. On one side stood a six-person sofa and table for clients. On the other, four desks pushed together.
There were plants here and there, frames on the walls. The office was neater and more respectable than expected.
“Sit over here.”
The low voice startled him. Yoon Haegang nodded toward the sofa.
“Uh, I, well…”
“What brings you here?”
He had come to work, actually.
“No need to be that tense. Who’s going to eat you?”
Haegang struck first, so Seojin shut his mouth and only moved his eyes. A soft voice and a beautiful face were no reason to take this man lightly. The person in front of him was a secondary yandere top.
One wrong word and he could be grabbed by the nape and thrown out a window. In the novel, that had not been a metaphor.
He was about to explain why he was here when the door slammed open. Seojin jumped in his seat and lost his chance to speak.
“Ugh, damn it. Why did there have to be an accident today of all days, of all— Noh Seojin-ssi! You’re here! You came!”
A middle-aged man stormed in mid-rant, spotted Seojin perched awkwardly on the sofa, and broke into a wide smile.
His no-tie suit looked a little sloppy, sleeves rolled to the elbows like any overworked office man, but the long knife scar under his jaw said otherwise.
“Haha. What a day. Even the president is in the office! Is the sun rising in the north? Come on, introductions, introductions!”
Manager Kim hurried to the sofa, dropped down beside Seojin with easy familiarity, and pointed both ways.
“This is our president, the man this company can’t do without! And this is Noh Seojin-ssi, who starts working with us today!”
He seemed to stress “starts working with us today.” Maybe it was just Seojin’s nerves.
Seojin could not argue. He only rolled his eyes. Haegang was staring so hard it felt like his cheeks might burn through.
“A new employee?”
“Yes, yes.”
“Omega?”
The up-and-down glance made Seojin tense his waist without thinking.
“No. Beta!”
“Hmm. You look exactly like an omega.”
In what way did he look like that refined, delicate omega beauty? If anyone here fit that, it was the man across from him.
His face alone was precise and elegant. Only the height and broad shoulders made him feel less like a classic beauty and more like a provocative, dangerous animal.
“I’m not.”
He answered on reflex, then hesitated.
But… my secondary gender should still be the same as before, right?
Originally, Seojin was classified as an omega, but he had been diagnosed as unpresented even after becoming an adult.
“I’m a beta.”
So it was not exactly a lie. He curled the corner of his mouth and drove the point in again.
Haegang narrowed his eyes. It was a chilling look, as if he were deciding what to do about this. Seojin’s shoulders hunched forward on their own.
“Well. We’ll go with that, then.”
He smiled and stood. Seojin thought the crisis had passed. It did not take long to learn that was the wrong conclusion.
Haegang kept watching him like a predator waiting on prey. Even while Seojin organized supply lists or read handover files, he could feel that attention on his whole body.
Manager Kim finally asked what on earth the president was doing. Haegang told him to mind his own work and go out on a field job if he was bored, and that shut the loyal subordinate up.
The stare never lifted. Seojin prayed for quitting time.
A workplace with a secondary yandere top was too high-difficulty for a first day.
The sun was sinking. Waiting for Euni to come home, Seojin heard children chattering.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
“An astronaut! You?”
“Mm… a singer!”
Listening to their cute future plans, he suddenly remembered an old conversation with his noona.
“Seojin, if you were born again, what would you want to do?”
“I’ve never thought about it…”
Freed from a long string of tests, Seojin had sprawled on the bed and answered listlessly.
“Come on, think about it.”
She tugged the hem of his patient gown. He thought for a moment. Honestly, he did not know. It was hard to imagine life after discharge.
I don’t even know how much longer I’ll live.
But a cold answer would only make her cry, so he had to give her something she could accept.
What would be good…
“I’d like to be an office worker with a stable job.”
He had never gone to work at a company even once.
“A house?”
“That would be nice too.”
Just imagining a home of his own where he could rest made the corner of his mouth lift.
“And?”
“Mm… maybe I’d feel at ease if I had about two billion in the bank?”
“What is that…”
She laughed, then asked without getting tired.
“Family?”
Seojin paused, then turned his head. Outside the window, little kids were running around the hospital playground.
“…I’d like a daughter.”
“Only a daughter?”
She let out a deflated laugh.
“Yeah. You know. That warm feeling in a house. A child’s bright laugh. I want to feel that.”
“A spouse?”
“I don’t know…”
He had never even looked that far, so the answer did not come easily. He changed the subject.
“What about you, noona? Didn’t you want to get married?”
“Of course I did. My dream was to live all sweet and cozy with an alpha husband and a kid!”
“See? Kids are good.”
He said it with a small laugh, and she punished him, even though it did not hurt.
“Ow, ow…”
While he rubbed his arm and made a fuss, he watched the kids race around, playing. That age really was nice.
They could run around bright and free, without worry.
He had even held a small wish that, if he ever raised a child, that child would live bright and happy too.
“I didn’t mean for it to come true like this.”
Seojin muttered blankly. The wish had come true. The only condition attached was that he had transmigrated into his noona’s novel. The rest was fine, except…
“Appa!”
The door opened and Euni climbed out of the van with that clear voice. She ran straight into his arms, and a smile rose on his face by itself.
“Thank you, teacher.”
“Not at all. Euni, see you tomorrow.”
“Yes… see you tomorrow.”
Still clinging to Seojin, Euni waved her hand. Her little body smelled like milk, so warm that he rubbed his cheek against her soft one.
“Did Euni have fun today?”
“Yes! We played outside today! Euni isn’t even scared of the swing!”
“Is that so.”
“What about Appa? Did work go well?”
“Yeah. Appa also…”
He could not say it went well, so the words trailed off.
“Whyyy, was Appa’s day bad?”
“Hm? No, no. Appa was fine too.”
As long as you ignored Yoon Haegang’s oppressive stare.
Starting tomorrow, please just go chase the main bottom instead.
He prayed hard. Maybe it worked. The next day, only Manager Kim was in the office.
“Ah! Seojin-ssi, you’re here? Sit. Want coffee?”
“No… I’ll make it myself.”
“No, no. I was about to drink some anyway. Wait a second. Mix? Black?”
“Black, please.”
Manager Kim winked comically and brought the coffee over at once.
“Here. Black.”
“Thank you. I’ll enjoy it.”
Seojin took the cup and glanced at the empty president’s seat. Manager Kim caught it.
“He won’t come in today, so you can relax.”
“Out on a field job, I guess. But shouldn’t a secretary stay by the president’s side?”
“Ah, that. The president finds it really annoying when someone follows him around.”
Seojin nodded. He remembered the setting. They had hired a secretary to handle office work because Haegang hated having anyone beside him.
“I see… Then what do I do today?”
“There’s someone I need you to get a handle on.”
“A person?”
“Yeah. Nothing hard. Just get familiar in advance. For client management.”
Unlike yesterday, his face looked a little guilty.
“…”
Sure enough, when Seojin opened the file he was given, there was a reason.
“He’s a client the president manages personally. So the personal information is pretty detailed. There’s a lot you should know ahead of time. Just do that today.”
Packed as tightly as a resume, it was one person’s file.
Shin Seyeong.
The main bottom Yoon Haegang had his eyes on.
