    Chapter 6

The bass thumped hard enough to make the heart tremble, while dazzling neon lights spun overhead. Passing through the people dancing in the main hall and heading down the inner corridor led to the private rooms reserved exclusively for the club’s VIPs.

Inside one of those private rooms, the smell of alcohol and the pheromones of Omegas were so heavily intertwined that it was suffocating.

“Director Kwon, why don’t you try this?”

“Director, how come you seem to be in such a bad mood today?”

The thick pheromones of the Omegas clinging flirtatiously to either side of him made Kwon Heesung’s brow instinctively crease.

Kwon Heesung, the third-generation heir of Ilsung Group, ranked third among Korea’s top conglomerates. His family had handed him the position of CEO at a major entertainment company, but lately, Heesung hadn’t gone anywhere near the company. Instead, he spent every night drowning himself in alcohol.

    Baek Hamin’s marriage.

After his perfect, devastating unrequited love had ended in failure, Kwon Heesung’s life had spiraled completely out of control.

    “…Back off. Stop bothering me.”

A cold voice slipped from Heesung’s lips, followed by a heavy, vicious pheromone that sliced through the room.

The Omegas flinched and hurriedly moved away in fear.

Heesung irritably grabbed the glass of liquor from the table and drained it in one gulp.

Even as the harsh alcohol burned down his throat, it did nothing to fill the gaping hole in his chest.

    ‘Baek Hamin…’

As Heesung stared blankly into space, the face of another man suddenly flashed through his mind—the man who had been crouched in the back of Hamin’s wedding venue just like him, snarling like a beast.

    Yoon Mujin.

That pathetic bastard who had survived on nothing but his fists.

At least I have money, which is why I’m living like this. But that bastard has nothing. He’s probably collapsed somewhere on the street, barely breathing.

Or maybe he’s already dead without anyone even knowing.

After all, that guy had worshipped Baek Hamin as though he were some saint.

For a moment, Heesung felt a strange sense of kinship and curiosity toward Yoon Mujin, who was presumably just as broken as he was.

    “Secretary Kim.”

At Heesung’s call, his executive secretary, who had been waiting in the corner of the room, immediately approached.

    “Yes, Director.”

“Yoon Mujin. Find out where that bastard is and what he’s been doing lately.”

It was nothing more than a petty impulse.

Maybe seeing that bastard rolling around in an even more miserable pit than his own would make Heesung feel a little better.

But several days later, the report Secretary Kim brought him completely defied Heesung’s expectations.

“I looked into Yoon Mujin. He is currently staying in a small rural village at the southernmost end of the country.”

“A rural village in the south? Why the hell did he go there?”

“It is apparently the hometown of the grandmother who raised him.”

“Huh. And? What is he doing there?”

    “Well…”

Secretary Kim cleared his throat and carefully swiped through the tablet.

“It has been confirmed that he is staying at someone’s house. According to the people nearby, an Omega lives in that house.”

“So what are you saying? Yoon Mujin is living with another Omega?”

    Heesung’s sharp eyes narrowed dangerously.

He threw the pen he was holding onto the desk.

    “Yoon Mujin, that fucking bastard.”

    A hollow laugh escaped him.

His insides twisted with an unbearable irritation.

So love is that easy for you? You loved Baek Hamin.

You were acting as though you’d willingly give your life for that elegant, beautiful Baek Hamin, and how long has it even been since you watched him get married? And you’ve already moved another Omega in and started playing house?

He didn’t know whether it was betrayal or resentment at being the only one left trapped in this hellish grief.

    Either way, the emotions exploded.

    “Have the car brought around.”

    “Yes? Director, right now?”

“I said have the car brought around right now!!

At Heesung’s irritated command, his secretary immediately sprang into action.

On Friday, with the weekend approaching, a sports car appeared at the entrance of the rural village.

The bright red sports car was completely out of place in the quiet, leisurely surroundings. It roared to a stop beneath the trees at the village entrance, immediately drawing the attention of the elderly people gathered on a wooden platform.

“Oh my, what kind of car is that? It’s practically hugging the ground. Looks fancy.”

“That’s a sports car. But does anyone around here even drive something like that?”

“Could it be the village head’s grandson?”

“Hey, look at the fellow getting out. He’s tall and handsome. The village head’s grandson looks more like a bear.”

    “That’s true.”

The elderly villagers, who had been chatting while fanning themselves, all turned their attention toward Kwon Heesung.

Heesung stepped out wearing an impeccably tailored luxury suit.

Then he frowned irritably at the dirt dusting the tips of his shoes.

“Fuck. Seriously. What the hell is anyone doing in some godforsaken mountain village like this?”

The suffocating humidity and smell of manure made him feel like gagging.

With an irritated expression, Heesung removed his sunglasses and approached the nearest elderly woman.

“Excuse me, ma’am. There’s a guy who recently moved into this village, right? Huge as a mountain and looks like an ox.”

“I don’t know about looking like an ox, but there is a big young man who recently moved in. If you go to that blue-roofed house over there on the hill, you’ll find him.”

    Blue roof.

Kwon Heesung glared in the direction she pointed and strode away.

He intended to kick down the door and punch Yoon Mujin square in the face for betraying Baek Hamin and happily living in the countryside with some Omega.

Let’s see just how amazing this Omega you’re living with is!

Behind him, the elderly woman clicked her tongue.

“My goodness, he doesn’t even know how to say thank you.”

“I know. What a rude fellow. Maybe we shouldn’t have told him.”

“Should we go over there together later?”

    “That might be better.”

By the time Kwon Heesung reached the blue-roofed house, he peered inside.

    But the yard was quiet.

The gate stood wide open, yet there wasn’t a sign of anyone around.

Only several large baskets sat on the wooden veranda.

    “They’re not here?”

Exhausted from the heat, Heesung wiped away his sweat and plopped down on the veranda.

A strangely sweet scent lingered faintly throughout the house, tickling the tip of his nose.

But he was too consumed by anger to think much of it.

    How much time had passed?

Footsteps approached from outside, accompanied by two people chatting casually.

“It’s really hot today. We should cut up a watermelon later.”

    “I’ll cut it.”

“How are you going to cut a watermelon with that hand? Just sit down and eat.”

The familiar voice came from beyond the gate.

The enormous man obediently answering was unmistakably Yoon Mujin.

And walking beside him was someone wearing a large straw hat pulled deeply over their face, muddy rubber boots, and a yellow flower-patterned apron.

A soft, warm pheromone drifted toward Heesung on the breeze.

    Definitely an Omega.

‘Is that him? The Omega Yoon Mujin supposedly moved in with?’

With a sinister smile, Kwon Heesung slowly rose from the veranda.

The two people, who had been bickering without noticing his presence, suddenly stopped when they saw Heesung standing there.

    “Kwon Heesung?”

    Yoon Mujin asked in surprise.

“Yeah, it’s me. I heard you were practically dying, so I came to see if I should pay my respects. But look at you. You’ve already started a new life together? You two practically look like newlyweds—”

Heesung’s mocking voice suddenly cut off.

The Omega standing beside Yoon Mujin slowly lifted his head at the appearance of the unfamiliar intruder.

Under the brim of the straw hat was a rounded forehead, a straight nose, familiar red lips, and pale skin.

    “……”

For a moment, Kwon Heesung’s mind went completely blank.

    His thoughts stopped functioning.

    No.

    That’s Jeong Iwon.

The man who had viciously tormented the completely innocent Baek Hamin out of jealousy.

Even if he had calmed down somewhat later, that didn’t erase everything he had done before.

    Why is he here?

I thought Kang Taeon had taken care of him.

    “You…”

    Heesung’s lips trembled.

    “Why are you here?”

As he muttered incredulously, a cold, cruel smile slowly spread across Heesung’s face.

The shock that had momentarily frozen his thoughts instantly transformed into contempt and mockery.

“Fuck. This is unbelievable. I thought I was hallucinating. Why the hell is Jeong Iwon, whom I thought had disappeared without a trace, playing in the dirt in some backwater village?”

Kwon Heesung strode across the yard in his dress shoes and stopped in front of the two of them.

    The atmosphere immediately became heavy.

It was because of the thick, vicious pheromones erupting from Heesung’s body.

The blatant, domineering pheromone assault of a dominant Alpha made Iwon’s breath catch in his throat.

    “Ugh!”

Iwon instinctively stepped backward with a short gasp.

The pheromone he had suppressed as much as possible all this time felt ready to burst out under the Alpha’s overwhelming pheromone assault.

    Then—

Withdraw your pheromones, Kwon Heesung. Now.

Yoon Mujin stepped in front of Iwon.

Even in the face of the overwhelming presence of a dominant Alpha, Mujin’s eyes flashed fiercely as he glared at Heesung.

Though he was a recessive Alpha and still injured, pheromones began pouring from Mujin’s body as well, fiercely challenging Heesung.

Seeing that, the corner of Kwon Heesung’s mouth twisted upward again.
