    Chapter 139

Go Igyeol collapsed to the ground, refusing to get into the taxi with its door left open.

Go Minjun, his gaze burning like fire, could no longer restrain the rage boiling up inside him. He kicked him—hard.

When Go Igyeol fell helplessly, sprawled out on the ground, Minjun grabbed him by the collar, dragging him roughly and forcing him into the taxi.

The driver, sensing the violent tension in the air, froze with a troubled face. It was clear that he didn’t want to be involved with passengers like these. He got out of the driver’s seat, clutching his phone, feet shifting nervously on the pavement.

    “Let go of me
!”

The more Go Igyeol struggled, the more fists came flying. He was completely exposed to the blows, but he still refused to let go of the car doorframe, fighting desperately to avoid being shoved inside.

Before long, the guards who had rushed up blocked Minjun’s way. Minjun, in turn, clutched Go Igyeol even tighter, as though ready to use him as a shield should they come closer.

He realized that talking quietly with Go Igyeol was no longer possible.

    “Damn it
everything’s ruined,” Minjun spat through clenched teeth. “All this, just for money. Fucking money.”

Unable to contain his frustration, he kicked the back of Go Igyeol’s knee, knocking him down again, then grabbed the back of his neck and yanked him upright like a rag doll.

Blood streamed down Go Igyeol’s face; his brow and nose had split open where Minjun’s fists had landed.

The crowd that had gathered gasped and screamed at the sight.

    “Hah, haah
I knew this would happen,” Minjun said between heavy breaths, dragging Go Igyeol close by the collar. “I knew it wouldn’t end well. My sister kept saying everything would work out, but I didn’t believe it. Hyung
 Igyeol-hyung.”

He gave a hollow laugh, gripping the trembling man’s neck.

“Let me just be honest with you. We came here because we need money.”

    “Ugh
stop. I don’t have money. Neither Father
 nor you
why are you doing this to me?”

“Ha! What a joke,” Minjun barked, his tone bitter and mocking. “You think I came to ask you for money? You don’t have any—but Seo Dohyeon does, right? So ask him. Call him. Hurry up. Don’t make me wait. I’d rather die than live like this. Look at Noona. Look at me. You know what Mom’s like now? But you—” His voice rose, cracking with emotion. “You’re the only one living well. In that big house. All alone!”

    “Minjun
”

“You want to hear something funny?” Minjun’s voice trembled with laughter. “We actually came here to take that baby of yours. It seemed like the fastest way. Didn’t expect there’d be a babysitter, though. Figures. You think they’d let you raise the kid yourself in that fancy house? Fuck. Should’ve thought that one through.”

He wiped the blood off Go Igyeol’s face with his hand, then rubbed it cruelly across his cheek.

Heeju, watching her brother’s face now smeared with blood, swallowed hard, frozen in horror.

Minjun tightened his hold whenever the guards even moved, choking Go Igyeol until his heels lifted off the ground.

    “Stop—hngh—don’t
”

“Then give me the money! You fucking bastard! Why won’t you give it! Why!”

Rage distorted Minjun’s features. He released one arm from around Go Igyeol’s neck and drove his fist into his ribs again and again.

    Thud. Thud.

The dull sound of flesh against flesh echoed as Go Igyeol convulsed and choked on his breath.

    “Hah, hah
I didn’t want to do this! You hear me? I didn’t want to!”

Go Igyeol, gasping, moved his weak arm.

The car carrying Seo Ihyeon still hadn’t left.

Through his blood-blurred vision, he whispered, “Hospital
 hospital
” over and over.

Minjun sneered. “Even now, you’re worrying about your kid? Worry about yourself! Do you even know what you look like right now?”

    “The hospital
 we have to go
 the baby
 he’s sick
”

“Oh, he’s sick?” Minjun hissed through his teeth. “Then fine. The moment that car moves, you and I—we’ll jump in front of it. You’ll be my airbag. I might survive—but you won’t. Got it? Hey, you bastards,” he shouted at the guards. “If you want him dead, go ahead—send that car off! Go on! I dare you! What’s wrong? You can’t, can you? You’re scared something’ll happen to him and you’ll all get fucked, right? Then call Seo Dohyeon! Tell him to bring the money! Right now!”

People were gathering, whispering, frightened. The scene had become chaos.

And then—Minjun froze. A black car was speeding toward them.

He laughed, breathless. “Well, look at that. No need to call him after all. The man with the money’s here. Guess you won’t die today, Hyung. Lucky you, huh?”

He patted Go Igyeol’s cheek, smearing blood on his fingers.

Then he laughed again, empty and wild.

“Go Igyeol,” came a calm voice.

Seo Dohyeon stepped out of the car.

His movement was quick, but his expression—composed, steady—was unwavering. His eyes locked on Go Igyeol, bloodied and trembling, and a violent tremor ran through his gaze.

“Hello there, Hyung. Or should I call you Brother-in-law? What do you prefer?” Minjun smirked, tauntingly.

“Let him go,” Seo Dohyeon said quietly.

“No, no,” Minjun chuckled. “Can’t do that. If I let him go, what do we have left to talk about?”

He covered Go Igyeol’s face with his palm, pressing against his bleeding brow. “He’s hurt, huh? My poor hyung looks like he’s in pain.”

    “Minjun.”

“Oh, finally! You said my name.” His grin widened, feverish. “I hear sirens. Guess the police are coming. We’re screwed now, huh? Cameras, too—bet the videos are everywhere already.”

He tightened his hold again. Go Igyeol gagged, his feet scraping against the asphalt.

Seo Dohyeon flinched forward, but Yoon Jaeseon held him back.

“Forget me,” Minjun went on, voice cracking. “Just help my sister and my mom live like people, okay?”

    “Ha
”

“They think he’s hurt bad, but it’s just his eyebrow, see? I hit him earlier. Not hard. Guess he’s got weak skin—it tore real easy.”

Seo Dohyeon ran a hand over his brow, sweat beading, and nodded. He only wanted them to stop touching him.

“I’ll take care of it,” he said quietly.

“Really? Great. But how can I trust you? You could lie—say you’ll help, then change your mind once I let go. My life’s already ruined. If the debt’s still here after this, that’s just unfair.”

    Words were useless.

Seo Dohyeon stepped closer, peeling Yoon Jaeseon’s hand off his sleeve. He told him to bring Go Heeju forward.

“You should’ve let him go when I asked nicely.”

    “What?”

“You think you’ll really run into traffic with him? You think I’d let that happen? You think I’d let anyone hurt Go Igyeol?”

“You—what the fuck are you saying, you psycho?! You think I won’t do it? You think I can’t?”

Seo Dohyeon lifted a hand to halt the guards approaching with Heeju. His voice dropped to a near whisper, low enough for only the three of them to hear.

“Then let me make a threat, too,” he murmured. “If you and Go Igyeol throw yourselves into the road—your sister will never set foot on Korean soil again. I’ll make sure of it. Maybe she thinks she’ll be saved one day by you, or by your father. I won’t let her have that hope. She’ll go somewhere
much worse. A place where she won’t even be treated like a person. Do you think I can’t make that happen?”

    “You—! You fucking—!”

Seo Dohyeon’s expression didn’t change. His eyes glinted, calm, cold.

“Your sister will get worse every day,” he said. “Her situation, her life. Surrounded by people who take pleasure in cruelty. Some of them won’t even be human. And when she breaks, when she’s beyond repair, she’ll be sent somewhere where pain becomes entertainment. I’ll sell her body, piece by piece, to pay your father’s debt. Tell me, how long do you think she’ll last? How long before she stops being herself?”

    Heeju’s face drained of color.

“If she tries to die,” Seo Dohyeon added coldly, “she won’t be able to. They cut out tongues first—new merchandise rule.”

“Touch her and I’ll kill you, you bastard!” Minjun screamed, completely losing control.

The words hit like a slap. His hand loosened.

Then, with a roar, Minjun shoved Go Igyeol aside and charged at Seo Dohyeon.

“You son of a bitch! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you all!”

Blood streaked his hands. He reached into his pocket and pulled out something small and metallic.

A click—and a blade snapped out with a sharp flash.

Go Igyeol, collapsed nearby, looked up in horror. His eyes widened, blood drying in streaks on his cheeks.

The glinting blade swung upward—straight toward Seo Dohyeon.
